Or maybe you can…
F’nH has a new look. I’m not sure yet if I’ll keep it or not, but I do know I’m not going back to the template I had before. As you can see, I don’t have the heart to get rid of “the girls” just yet.
The reason for the change is that I checked the author’s website to see if there was an update that allowed for threaded commenting (I love that at Pam’s site), and I discovered that the authors were New Zealanders! Oh, and self-proclaimed Marxists, too. Let me tell you, I knew a “Kiwi” foreign exchange student once…
Okay, so really it was the Marxist bullshit that turned me. They had their “manifesto” posted, and although it was quite comical, I really don’t want anything more to do with them. Here’s a sample:
We also don’t trust people with too much money. You gotta wonder how many kittens and puppies were strangled somewhere in their bloodline to become ’so damn money’. So yeah, we’re working class leftist marxist pinko scum, but we’re proud of that! At least it means we’re honest people.
Honest? Well, I guess. That still doesn’t make you right. A schizophrenic inmate tell you the things he hears the voices tell him to do without bending the truth even a little. That doesn’t change the fact that he/she is a danger to society and their own person… (whichever one of those ‘persons’ inside is weakest, anyway.) So I sure as hell won’t advertise or do business with you – even if it’s “free”.
Anyway, to you, my three beloved readers…
Please let me know if there is anything that doesn’t seem to be working – especially if the site doesn’t load or is terribly slow. I know some of you don’t like “dark” themes like the one I put up at the HoZ for Mrs. Who – so feel free to choose another skin down there in the control menu at the bottom left of the window. Personally, I like the “Water” theme, and might make that the default. Whatever theme you choose should show up again if you have cookies enabled.
So go ahead – poke around. If you know of any WordPress widgets that you’ve found useful or pretty, please clue me in. I usually test on my pathetic little blog before I do anything major to the HoZ, so consider you’re really helping Mrs. Who out in the long run. Anything I glean that I find useful or cool will undoubtedly find its way to the House. But don’t worry – I’m not about to overhaul HoZ anytime soon. I’m just looking for tweaks and corners to tuck in. She seems pretty happy with her blog, which makes me happy.
And yes, I expect input from all three of you.

I like mippin (it reformats it for a cell phone). Loads a little slow initially on the phone, but then it is all text and much easier to keep up.
Okay – Mippin ‘Mobilize’ is installed, but you’ll have to verify that it’s working for me. Despite being an IT geek, I still can’t see my way clear of paying for Internet and SMS for a cell phone account because I spend all day and most evenings behind a PC screen, and I don’t need another one in my pocket! :/
I like it. I tend to like the darker colors, but I have my template all colorific because honestly I thought it set off the Goat Button better.
And as we all know, it’s all about the Goat Button.
I [heart] the Goat Button!!
I heart the goat button, too!
And the Goat Button loves all of you, too.
I like it; very dynamic! Although it also installed some sort of bar at the bottom of the page and a pop up menu appeared, which can be disconcerting for paranoid types…
Plugins… some of mine are: custom smilies, Google XML sitemaps, subscribe to comments and WP Page navi. None of which are must haves, of course.
Thanks, Pam! The bar at the bottom isn’t exactly “installed” – it’s scripted, but does require that Java / ActiveX be installed on your PC. However, that’s true with just about anything you see on the web these days.
Thanks especially for your plugin tips… I’ll be playing with different things until I “settle” – but I am really liking this new look myself. Unless I run into something totally mind-blowing, I think it’s going to stay.
OH, forgot to weigh in on mippen… I had installed it but had to disable… Arthur accesses my site via his Blackberry and he hated it; nothing but plain text loaded and he couldn’t see comments.
Well, others will have to weigh in on mippen as to whether or not it’s working here. I usually keep the oldest cell phone in the house, so I’m not up to testing from a mobile browser. From time to time I drool over the iPhone, and now even the Droid – but as much as I dislike cellphones, I just can’t justify the cost – especially when you add-in the aggregate of all the contract “data” extras and taxes.
Not to say I’m a technophobe – I carried a PDA phone before PDA phones were cool – spent over $500 ea. on two different occasions. But that’s when my “office” square footage was whatever floor tile I was standing on and having all my customer and system data at my fingertips was not just “necessary” – it was my lifeblood and livelihood. Now I commute 3 miles round trip to sit at a desk with a computer and a desk phone at either site. I ride a motorcycle, so I don’t visit on the phone while I’m going down the road – and that has rubbed off to my behavior behind the wheel. I despise telephone use while driving, and I get violent when I see idiots (usually kids or – sorry, just being honest – women) TEXTING as they pilot a 4000+ pound projectile down the road.
Oops, I left the rant valve open…
Artie had to have one for work; otherwise he’d still be using a dinosaur like I am…
The point with mippin is that it strips all the graphics except photos out of it. For people like me with the oldest cell phone that just barely can see text. I get my internet for ‘free’ (NOT) because I had to buy internet for my hubby’s cell. Hence, I use it. It doesn’t matter how much I surf, since it is a monthly payment and not by use. And it keeps me busy in the doctor’s office until the battery runs out.
Your site looks fine under mippin for me.
Yea!
I’ve never been a fan of scrolling foregrounds with static backgrounds, but I can read all the words, so I’m fine.
Yeah, echoes of this same sentiment expressed when I put together Mrs. Who’s site still ring in my ears…
